Meet Betty

 Young  Female

Betty is a young female looking for her forever home. She came into the shelter as a stray. She was very fearful in that environment so she was taken into rescue. She is probably not much more than a year or so old. Even though she is young, we think she may have had a litter. Betty will need a home with GSD savvy people who are willing to work with her. Her socialization skills with both dogs and people need work. With regard to other dogs, in her foster home, Betty is an alpha female in her pack. She gets along well with the other 6 dogs in her foster home. Outside her home, like at the vet or the dog park, she is not so good with other dogs. She is very shy and fearful around most men.  But once she is familiar with them, she is fine. She is very fearful at the vet and submissive pees. I think she just needs some work in this department so her forever home will need to commit to training to help her resolve these issues.

Betty really wants to listen and is pretty good at basic commands.  She is young so sometimes her listening skills are lacking.  She will do best in a home with a confident male dog. Betty is very smart. She has learned how to open doors all by herself. Her foster mom is really happy about that, especially on rainy days when she lets all the other dogs out into the mud! Betty loves to play frisbee and is great at catching the frisbee in the air! She will play till she drops!  She has not been around kids or cats, but I think that she would be fine with proper introductions. She does like to chase critters that venture into the yard, like any dog would, but given her desire to listen, I think she will be able to overcome those behaviors. Because she is young, I would not place her in a home with extremely young children, but a home with pet savvy or older ones would be fine.

Healthwise, she has had some hormone issues, but we believe those to be taken care of upon spaying. She sometimes has a sensitive stomach, as some GSD's do. A bland diet has taken care of that, and she is back on normal food, but she may be prone to intestinal issues so her future home will need to be careful with her diet. She currently eats Purina One.

Betty is a great dog who deserves a chance with someone willing to work with her. If you are interested in meeting Betty please complete and application at gsr-sp.com. If you have specific questions about Betty, you can contact her foster mom at psunittany1987@aol.com.  Betty is in a foster home in central PA.
